Work

I am a stay at home mom, however I do get out about every 4 months and work for one week. I started doing this about 9 years ago. I go to the University during finals week and work the book buyback for the college students. So if they have books that they don't want anymore, they can bring them to the buyback and get money back for them. Now, it's usually not a lot, and I do feel sorry for those poor students who paid over $100 for their Psychology book, and they might only get $40 back for it. It is decent money so I think that's what keeps me going. However, I am very thankful I do not work this type of job everyday of my life. You are on your feet for 8 hours, and you have to deal with the students who expect to get $100 back for their Psych book that they just got done using for the last 3 months. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way!

Note to students out there: Please be nice to the buyback ladies. It's Not.Their.Fault.!

So anyway, back to working...this past week I worked a buyback. We were very busy. We hardly had time to breathe. I had one student come to sell her books back and said she would love to keep the books she had but her car was in the shop and she needed the money to pay for it. I think I only ended up giving her $60.00. I hope she got her car back. It made me sad. I was wishing I had an extra $300 to give to her.

The college I was working at was close to a good friend of mine who used to live in my ward and so I called her and she met me for lunch! Thanks for coming Anita! Those reunions make the day fun and worth it.

My kids survived the week of me not getting home until 5:30 or 6:00 so that was good. They usually do pretty good. I will remember next time to remind them of the rules while I am gone, like walking to Walmart without permission and having friends over while mom is gone. We have been doing this now for how long?? I guess they need lots of reminders!

That sounds like a great job! I need a week like that. I think it is good for us stay at home moms to get some adult time, even if it is with college students who are cranky. I remember being one of those.
